Task: Volume calculation of bulk materials stored in warehouses and stockpiles. For this major industrial client, our team was tasked with accurately calculating the volume of bulk materials stored in enclosed warehouses and outdoor stockpiles.
Solution: Detailed total station survey and Digital Terrain Model (DTM) creation To meet the task, we carried out a high-precision reflectorless total station survey with a density of up to 10 points per square meter. The survey was conducted using a Leica TS10 total station in tracking mode, ensuring fast and stable measurements.
The resulting Digital Terrain Model (DTM) included over 4,500 data points, capturing the geometry of the material heaps with high precision. The DTM was aligned with the building’s floor base, enabling accurate volume calculations using AutoCAD software with an error margin of just 1%.

Task: A global food production company approached us for a comprehensive engineering assessment of a proposed industrial site in Almaty Region. The objective was to carry out full geodetic and geotechnical investigations for a feasibility study (FS), with a view toward initiating the design phase.
Solution: We organized a complete site assessment within tight deadlines, covering two plots of 30 and 70 hectares. Geodetic surveying was performed on a 15×15 m grid using high-precision GNSS equipment, ensuring detailed topography and minimizing design risks.
We coordinated with architecture authorities to officially establish red lines, locate existing utilities, and register all data in the state cadastre. This proactive approach prevented delays in the permitting process and guaranteed legal clarity for the site. Simultaneously, geological investigations were carried out through evenly distributed boreholes across the site. Soil profile analysis and lab testing confirmed that ground conditions met the requirements for industrial construction, helping to avoid unforeseen foundation costs.
Result: The client received a complete technical basis for making an informed investment decision. More than just a task, we delivered confidence — proving that WestSurvey is a reliable partner for comprehensive site preparation.
POLIGRAM LLP – Railway Bypass Project As part of a 62 km railway bypass project along the Zhetygen – Kazybek Bek route (Almaty Region), our team carried out comprehensive geodetic groundwork for the start of design activities.
Task: Establish a reliable geodetic control network to support topographic surveys and linear infrastructure design over a 60+ km corridor.
Solution: We conducted static GNSS observations on 61 benchmarks with overlapping sessions. This ensured synchronization within a single satellite constellation, enabling consistent and highly accurate coordinate data across the entire route. A central benchmark was used as the base station. Three field crews in off-road vehicles worked simultaneously along different sections of the corridor. Fieldwork was performed day and night under difficult conditions and tight deadlines. The crews coordinated their GNSS observations to start and stop at 1-second intervals at every station. Post-processing was done in Trimble Business Center (TBC), where plane rectangular coordinates for all benchmarks were calculated.
Result: The final dataset was transferred to the topographic survey team and submitted to KTZ (Kazakhstan Railways) as the geodetic basis for subsequent project design.
Our goal is not just to measure — but to deliver precision and reliability that large infrastructure projects can depend on.
Aerial Survey of the Reconstructed Road Section
Objective: 1.Conduct reconnaissance work along the road section between MZ and KZ. 2.Determine the actual area of the newly asphalted pavement. 3.Record longitudinal and transverse slopes of the road surface. 4.Prepare clear and detailed as-built documentation to confirm the completed repair works.
Solution: The WestSurvey team carried out an aerial survey of the reconstructed road section with a total length of 36 km. To ensure high accuracy, the work was tied to the nearest state geodetic network (SGN) point, a base station was installed, and ground control points were placed along the route at intervals of 1–2 km.
The survey was performed using a UAV in PPK mode, allowing the fieldwork to be completed within two days while maintaining positional accuracy of up to 2 cm.
During the processing stage, the centers of photography and control points were processed in Agisoft Metashape, resulting in the creation of: a high-resolution orthophotomap, a digital terrain model (DTM), as-built diagrams of pavement boundaries and slope gradients. The AutoCAD environment was used to design the actual pavement contour, complemented by graphical materials and the orthophotomap for visual analysis.
Result: The client received comprehensive as-built documentation for the reconstructed road section between MZ and KZ. The deliverables included the orthophotomap, DTM, and slope tables, which accurately confirmed compliance of the executed works with the design elevations and quantities. The work completed by WestSurvey provided verified, precise data on the quality of repairs and served as confirmation of the actual condition of the site.
WestSurvey employs one of the most advanced methods of geodetic surveying — aerial photogrammetry. This technology enables the acquisition of high-precision spatial data on terrain and infrastructure over large areas in a short period of time.
Using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating in PPK/RTK mode, we produce: High-resolution orthophotos; Digital terrain models (DTMs); 3D models of terrain and infrastructure; As-built drawings with centimeter-level accuracy.
Aerial photogrammetry significantly accelerates the surveying process, minimizes human error, and delivers objective, verifiable results that fully comply with modern geodetic standards.
Earthwork Volume Calculation Reconstruction of a Highway in the West Kazakhstan Region
Objective: 1.Conduct reconnaissance surveying of the project area. 2.Identify possible discrepancies in the project reference grid (PRG). 3.Verify existing benchmarks for compliance with the State Geodetic Network (SGN). 4.Perform intermediate as-built surveying of earthworks to determine the actual volume of embankment materials. 5.Prepare a detailed technical report on the completed works.
Solution: A WestSurvey field team of three geodetic engineers was mobilized, equipped with a GNSS base-rover system and a Toyota Hilux off-road vehicle. During the initial phase, specialists conducted on-site reconnaissance and analyzed the source data before commencing field operations: A base station was established on one of the existing benchmarks, followed by verification of the others for relative discrepancies. A detailed as-built survey was carried out along the upper and lower edges of the embankment, precisely replicating its geometric profile. At the processing stage, a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and a 3D corridor model were developed, providing a clear visualization of the earthworks and ensuring transparent volume calculations for all project stakeholders. A comprehensive report was compiled, including chainage-based (station-by-station) volume tables of the embankment.
Result: The completed survey provided accurate and verifiable data on the actual earthwork volumes. Independent measurement verification resolved discrepancies between contractors and allowed the client to objectively assess the completed works. The WestSurvey report served as the primary confirmation of volume accuracy on the project site.
Mart Village Shopping Center As-Built Survey of Floor Level Variations
Objective: The client’s objective was to determine the geometric condition of the existing floor and identify possible deformations that caused surface slopes throughout the shopping center. It was necessary to determine how much the floor level deviated from the zero elevation mark across different areas of the building.
Solution: To accomplish this task, WestSurvey specialists performed a total station survey across two floors of the shopping center with a total area of approximately 2,500 m². The work was conducted using two total stations, allowing the survey to be completed within three working days.
Prior to data collection, temporary benchmarks (control marks) were established, followed by a closed traversing network to ensure measurement accuracy. As a result, approximately 1,500 elevation points (spot heights) were recorded across the entire building, including boutiques, technical rooms, and common areas.
Result: A detailed as-built elevation map was prepared, showing floor level variations at intervals of 2.5–3 meters. The obtained data allowed the client to clearly assess the degree of floor deformation and accurately estimate the scope of required restoration work.
